The robbery took place around 9:45 p.m., Monday, May 13, at the motel at 219 Woodmont Road, said the Milford Police Officer Joseph Dempsey.
When officers arrived on the scene they found that a man had baited the desk clerk out from the back office by claiming the lobby microwave was broken, Dempsey said.
When the victim responded the man, identified as Elben Quinones, 51, of Bridgeport, grabbed the victim by the neck and pointed a handgun in the victim's face, he added.
The victim fought back and was hit in the face with the handgun and thrown across the room causing the victim to lose consciousness, Dempsey said.
Quinones then took the cash register and other items from the office and fled across the street to a vehicle in wait, operated by Melanie Lugo, 34, of Bridgeport, he added.
Through fast-acting and vigilant investigation the suspect vehicle information was obtained which led to arrest warrants being issued for the arrestees Quinones and Lugo who were located in a Bridgeport motel on Tuesday, May 14, Dempsey said.
Quinones claimed to only have a BB gun inside of the motel room, which was not located during a search of the room, he added.
The victim was evaluated at a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
Quinones and Lugo were charged with assault on an elderly person, robbery, larceny, and conspiracy.
Quinones was held on a $500,000 bond; Lugo was held on a $250,000 bond. Both are scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, May 15.
